today i flipped through the ST Recruit 2 times.. first time, i didn't see any job ad that excites me. was abit worried cos the Recruit is quite thick today. i did see a few companies which i would be very excited in my previous job hunt - loreal and unilever. but this time round, i wasn't excited.. in fact, i am quite apprehensive and doubtful. i don't know if i really want to do marketing. is marketing really what i want?
i tried to recall what makes me want to go into marketing:
1) it was because i don't like the price-related stuff about my previous sales position. i felt marketing suits me better because it is a more behind-the-scene job and it still allows me to reach out to people.
2) it was because i wanted to do something whereby i can learn about consumer behavior
3) it was because i am very interested in customer service quality and marketing seems related. so i decide to start from marketing as i have gained some experience in marketing from 3-d.
so that's how i narrow down to marketing. after 3 mths plus on this new place and previous temp experience in jos, i realised that marketing often plays a vvv supporting role. so insignificant that sales people seldom care. in fact, sometimes they find us troublesome!!
and more imptly, i missed the type of personal relationship i used to build with customers as i try to understand their needs/requirements and recommend solutions to them.
yup, now when people asked me what kind of job i am looking for, i dunoe how to answer. i will know it when i see it. i am still exploring and thinking, and i dun dare to verbalise anything so soon...
there is an article on ST Recruit about this starbucks operations manager (cannot remember the exact title). her job duties/scope described in the article interest me. her typical day include things like visiting various stores, helping the crew members learn and grow and also customer service related tasks. this is interesting and it coincides with something i am keen on - customer service. i like the fact that part of the job is concerned with helping people who work for her grow. am i suited for this???? a retail operations personnel with borders? sounds like a dream job for me..
anyway, when i flipped the ST recruit for the 2nd time, i identifed 2-3 which i would like to give it a try. so i will work on the applications soon..
